Every year in October, Mayberry is home to the Autumn Leaves Festival™, an historic festival in the heart of Mount Airy, North Carolina. People from all over the country visit the streets of downtown and the locals love it too. You’ll find vendors with one-of-a-kind items and food you cannot get anywhere else, must-see attractions, and some of the best musicians around.
Enjoy “Food for the Soul” — ham biscuits, collards & cornbread, BBQ, hamburgers, ground steak — and even a collard green sandwich! Never tried — or even heard of — a collard green sandwich? Me neither! But apparently Mt. Airy isn’t the only place to get one:
Live Bandstand & Music Jams
The Autumn Leaves Festival showcases the area’s rich musical heritage, featuring Old-Time, Blue Grass and Gospel music performed by local musicians on the downtown stage. 37 different bands will each play a 40-minute set. Local musician Michael Fox will be set up in a tent in front of the chamber of commerce office on Main Street. Fox, a tradition at the festival since its inception, plays from sun-up to sundown!
Arts and Crafts
Unique arts & crafts of more than 200 craftsmen line the streets. Many demonstrate talents and skills that are passed down through multiple generations. The kids will enjoy DIY crafts, handmade toys and accessories, and a kids play area.
Small-Town Friendly Atmosphere
The Autumn Leaves Festival is the place to be if you want to experience the small-town friendly atmosphere, the variety of good food and inviting smells, and the rich history of the community.
