A little “peace” of heaven just off the Blue Ridge Parkway

Pilot's Perch Cabins

About the Owners of Pilot’s Perch

We honeymooned at Pilot’s Perch when we were married in April 2014. We so enjoyed our time here, and were so relaxed and refreshed after our stay, that we knew we would have to come back some time. That return visit happened in November 2017. During our stay this second time, we were presented with the most wonderful opportunity of potentially purchasing Pilot’s Perch log cabin as our very own personal vacation home in the Blue Ridge Mountains. How cool is that?!?! We thought it would be very cool to own the place where we honeymooned!!! We were very excited about this opportunity and began extensive conversations with the then owners of Pilot’s Perch, Clint and Roxanne. Since we loved Pilot’s Perch so much, we decided to make it our very own home away from home. It has given us much joy to make this purchase and we are looking forward to having such a quiet and peaceful place we can go to and get away from all the stress of our normal, daily lives and relax and unwind. We are looking forward to making many beautiful, new and happy memories at the cabin. We are blessed to be able to share Pilot’s Perch with you and hope you will enjoy the cabin as much as we do and make many beautiful, new and happy memories here as well. The cabin is beautifully furnished and decorated with all the conveniences of home, but we will continue to update and add amenities to enhance our guests’ mountain log cabin experience. You will find the only negative thing about Pilot’s Perch is having to leave it to go home.

Why we chose Fancy Gap

That view!!! We chose the Fancy Gap cabin for its breathtaking views and close proximity to our Virginia family as we live in Fort Worth, Texas. It is also great that we are minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Pilot’s Perch is really close and accessible to many area attractions. The cabin is 25 minutes from Mount Airy, NC to the south (Andy Griffith’s hometown) and 25 minutes from Galax, VA to the north (lots of antique stores and quaint shops). There are several wineries nearby: Chateau Morrisette (our favorite), West Wind Winery, Shelton Vineyards, Old North State Winery and Villa Appallacia. Mabry Mill is just a short scenic ride down the Parkway and the New River Trail State Park is only a short drive up I-77. Pilot’s Perch is located in an area in which you can always find something to do or you can just relax and enjoy doing nothing.

What’s unique about the cabin?

Pilot’s Perch has two large decks, both of which offer amazing views of the Piedmont and Pilot Mountain, the cabin’s namesake. On clear days, you can actually see the tops of the skyscrapers in Winston-Salem, NC which are approximately 52 miles away. The cabin is furnished with some really unique furniture and accessories that were hand-picked especially for the cabin. We have also tried to provide all the conveniences of home. Chances are, if you have it at home, you’ll find it at Pilot’s Perch. The development in which the cabin is located has 2 ponds for our guests’ enjoyment. (You should see the size of the catfish in one of them!) There is a covered bridge over a nearby stream with picnic tables where visitors may enjoy a picnic lunch. We have waterfalls for you to enjoy climbing, and it is an everyday occurrence to see wild turkeys, deer and other wildlife around the cabin and in the development. You might even spot an occasional black bear!
