The Loaded Goat Sports Pub and Grill in downtown Mt. Airy features excellent burgers, sandwiches, salads and area brews.
The Burgers at The Loaded Goat
You won’t find a better burger in Mt. Airy. My favorite is the plain hamburger, but they offer other burgers as well. The Dynamite Burger has a spicy kick to it. The chef-inspired Goat Burger, their signature burger, features soft goat cheese, oven-roasted tomatoes, caramelized onions and aioli with a fresh spring mix. They also mention off-menu burgers on the menu, so if you don’t see one you like, that might be a good option. I see an off-menu bacon, egg and cheese burger on their Facebook page that might be worth checking out.
The Sausage Fest appetizer is also very good.
Sports Pub and Grill, Live Music
The restaurant is a comfortable pub and grill setting with the typical TVs showing sporting events. They have live music and half price wings Wednesday from 7-9 PM.
Why The Loaded Goat?
Where did the name come from? From an Andy Griffith Show episode, of course. You’re in Mayberry, so that should be expected, right? Here’s the episode where the loaded (with dynamite) goat makes an appearance:
Historical Location at the Main Oak Emporium
The Loaded Goat is located in the historic Main Oak Emporium. The Emporium, which closed in 2017, is part of Mt. Airy’s recent past. The building’s most recent claim to fame was a partial collapse of the front part of the building that faces main street. It’s been under construction since the collapse in 2022.
